    Hand?
    Thigh?
    Calf?

    Width of shoulders?

... and it is roughly one meter from your nose to your middle finger arm outstretched ... a very old method of measuring material ... I know from experience having made all my clothes at one time, including low-cut jeans.

Something to do with the length of a long bow arrow, or maybe I'm in cloud cookoo land.

Pre metrication, I used to be able to perform a perfectly spaced 1 yard step to measure stuff without a tape measure, but then had to add a 90 degrees width of my footwear until I got the knack of adding that extra oomph to get 1 metre paces.
