What can I bake with these ingredients...

    We've currently got:

    Eggs
    Plain flour
    Porridge oats
    Baking powder
    Bicarbonate of soda
    Margarine
    Dried fruit
    Demarera sugar
    Milk
    Cinnamon

    Also got cheese, herbs, garlic etc for savoury stuff.

    Any ideas what I can bake up for my next culinary masterpiece?

    Maybe some muffins? Or a cakey bread loaf?
    Might just have to pop round later for a coffee........ :)

    forget about baking with those ingredients .... make a proper omellette

    seperate the yolks of 2 eggs

    whisk the whites with an electric whisker till they whites are thick (takes approx 3 minutes)

    put the oven on grill

    mix the egg yolks with a fork, and carefully pour the egg yolks into the egg whites, and briefly mix slowly with a fork so as not to remove the air in the egg whites

    melt some butter in a pan

    add the egg mixture, but do not stir

    cook for a short while on moderate heat (a minute or so)

    remove from the heat, add salt and black pepper, grated cheese etc but don't mix the egg ... the egg will still be puffy and raw on the top

    place the pan in the oven which is on grill .... cook till the top is golden brown (takes a short while)

    remove but be carefull as the pan handle will be hot

    fold the omelette and serve

    you will be amazed at how large the omellete is ... and only takes 2 eggs

    ---------

    with the left over eggs/milk/cinnamon etc, make pancakes .... to top the pancakes, mix sugar with cinamon (1 cup sugar to 1 tablespoon cinamon)

    the trick is to have a pot of steaming water .... place a plate over the pot ...

    as the pancakes are ready, layer them on the plate and sprinke the sugar/cinnamon mixture over (one pancake at a time .... the heat of the steaming water will keep the pancakes hot and melt the sugar ....

    when you have completed making the pancakes, roll them and serve immediately whilst still hot

      Any suggestions how I put the ingredients together in the right order to achieve these things?:)

      Dimpleslike your omelette recipe. It sounds like it would come out nice and light, the exact opposite to the omelettes I usually end up with. I might give it a go through the week.

      My Badger in a china shop approach would be to mix everything together untill it drops off a spoon nicely, get the oven hot & then mix in the bicarb & baking powder.

        Zig, while we're on the subject of baking, I had a go at your bread pudding recipe last week, the one that you mentioned in the insomniacs thread.

        It went down a treat. Clean bowls all round. My mam was round for tea, and I could see that she was a sceptical because her mam used to make it, and was apparently very good at it, so I didn't expect my interpretation of it to go down quite as well, but we got another clean bowl there. The only criticism I got (and I was expecting some) was the skin had gone too hard (which it had, it was like the whole pudding was encased in a thin layer of granite).

        How long do you bake it for, and at what sort of heat? How do you decide when its done?

        I just Google recipes when I want to make something. There are loads of good sites out there.

        I miss read that as clean bowels for a second Dave:heehee:

        I'm a bit haphazard when it comes to temperatures, usually 225 i think unless i'm doing a sunday roast when i turn it up all the way.

        To be honest, i'd have to go and look at the cooker dial to tell you exactly & there are wimmin in the kitchen at the moment. Will have to wait:gaagh:

        To test it, I poke it via facebook, no no no, with a fork:DOH:

            I find it best to find somewhere to hide when there are women in my kitchen. When the wife is in her living room I tend to going and work in the front garden, where I can only just hear the chaos.

            Well, I'm not sure I'd use the word 'recipe':)

            You said something along the lines of squishing the bread with water, banging in loads of sugar and fruit, and then whacking it in the oven.:dbgrtmb:
