    Hi all.

My back garden is a blank canvass (currently freshly dug over).

I don't expect to have it perfect this year, but I'd like it to be useable by early summer.

I have a big compost heap elsewhere that is not far off ready, but not ready enough to be dug in. The dug over garden is clay, and currently wet and messy, not really ready to be worked.

Its been like this since autumn, and the complete absence of progress is starting to get to me a bit.

Is there anything I can be getting on with at this time of year?

Yes! Go out and enjoy yourself :heehee:

If the garden has a lot of clay then you are going to need to get that broken down so it doesn't clog when you turn it over each time. Do you have sufficient compost to make it into good topsoil? The old traditional way of breaking the clay and stopping it from clogging was to dig straw into it. It also helps aerate the soil.

Planning clueless, thats what im doing at the min.. will you be using all of your dug over part of the garden or are you building on parts of it? I would get all the hard landscaping started first, when we had our front garden redone we started in January and had no problems, dug out the founds, walls and brick paving laid by Febuary.. i think the hardest part is actually starting ;)

 Apart from digging in compost from your compost heap, there is not allot to do but you might like to look here at Kristin's thread.....
