To be fair though, we all know that terrorists walk about taking photos of stuff that is not exactly secret, and discuss their secret plans under lamp posts. For all the coppers knew, the terrorists might have been planning to batter someone in Mick's Plaice.

I am shocked and appalled by that, what a petty situation :(

To think we taxpayers are paying for the police and council officials to waste their time like that makes it even worse.

A utter and complete lack of common sense there, I just hope the situation is clarified so people can pursue their hobbies unhindered.

Sorry to hear you have been stopped as well Woo, it can't be a nice thing to happen.

OH went to the gym last night and noticed the CCTV cameras were pointing directly through the windows into the swimming pool area. Some filthy, little, council bureaucrat could happily sit and watch those taps if he felt like it...and no one would be any the wiser.

OH complained to the Duty Manager of the leisure centre, has already written an email to the Council and will be contacting the local press to inform them.

We like to complain about the modern police force here in Britain, but just to put some things into perspective, I think we are really lucky compared to others.

My mum's friend is a from Sri Lanka. He fled to Britain and ultimately got granted British citizenship after his horrendous time in his home country. Because he is in the Tamil minority, the local authorities decided that he must be, or colaborate with the Tamil Tigers. They arrested him and detained him without trial, tortured him, and locked him away. He escaped from jail and fled to here.

I have a friend from Taiwan. He says that the police in China and Taiwan are known locally as gangsters in uniforms. He cited an example of a young boy that had dared to be open about his buddhist beliefs, who was "taken into protective custody" and never seen again.

Another friend of mine was in France during some public celebration (not a protest). Local bylaws said there should be no noise after midnight. When midnight struck, the local coppers enforced this bylaw by beating anyone the caught still in the town square. A local lad told my mate this is normal, and in fact warned my mate to start running if he wasn't away from the square by midnight.

Another mate of mine was ordered at gunpoint to pick up some litter he hadn't even dropped while he was on holiday in Spain. To be fair to the coppers in that case though my mate probably deserved a good scare even if he was innocent on that occassion, as he can on occassions be a bit foolish.

So all in all, I don't think the British coppers are to bad really.

Hi Clueless I personally am not saying our police are bad, that would be a rather unfortunate generalisation for me to make,Its just some of the laws are and the police have to adhere and enforce them,I just think that a very small percentage (a minority (IMHO) could have a much better attitude when they first approach you,Indeed I have several police officers as acquaintances and have often spoken about this with them at length.Yes I still think that the majority of our Police are the best In the world.:thumb::)

Sorry, but its not really harrasement is it?

More like over zealous and embarassment. (some for each)

Now if they did it every time he left his house, that would be harrasement, but not just once.
