To explain - I'm currently clearing a roughly 10 by 2 foot area outside my front window. This is primarily so that I can plant my rooted Hydrangea and Buddleia cuttings.

However, alongside those (and just to brighten up the patch for a while) I'd like to put in some small flowering plants.

What can I plant now which will still flower until the Autumn (and beyond if possible, however unlikely that may be).

The area faces west so only gets full sunshine (sun? what's that?) in the afternoon.

The plants must be as cheap as possible - money is rather tight.

What about some winter pansies or violas? As long as you deadhead them, they should keep going for a while.

Dwarf Chrysanthemums will flower through to the first frosts.

Michaelmas Daisies, Dahlias, Crocosmia and autumn Cyclamen are all flowering now and should be available to buy in pots ( they are around here ). If you wait another month you'll also be able to get Wallflowers and Sweet Williams which flower autumn and then again in the spring.
