My tulips have not done very well this year, and I don't know why.
In the borders, the Gavotas, Stessas and Cape Cod have done fine; but my Apricot Beauty have put on a limited display, considering how many there are there.
Those tulips I planted in pots (for infilling at a later date) have shrivelled up. These include more Gavotas, Dreaming Maid, China Town and Ballerina (the last bought fresh last Autumn).
Inspected the bulbs in pots and can't find any evidence of vine weavil or any other bugs; although some of the bulbs seemed to be rotted, others were quite firm.
Has anyone else had a problem this year? Could it have been the cold winter?

    Hello!!:)

I don't know if you still have any of the bulbs left, but did you happen to cut the soft or rotton bulbs in half? If you did, did you see any dark rings inside? Or was there any small fungal growths on the outer scales of the bulb?

Also the rather cold winter we just had may of affected the bulbs in pots, as they would not be as insulated as if they were in the ground.

Thanks, BibBird, I have put it down to the cold winter. When I dug up the affected plants, they did seem to have blue mildew. I've chucked them all out and will buy fresh bulbs come Autumn.
