I am really puzzled. I have grown both Mange Tout and regular Peas from seed. I managed to get the seedlings mixed up:whistle: so ended up planting them altogether in the same area. The Mange Tout have been amazing, so much so that the family is going on strike from eating any more of them and my freezer is bulging too. That's the good news. The bad is that the Peas which were planted at exactly the same time haven't produced a single edible sized Pea yet. There wouldn't appear that many pods either. I am presuming that Mange Tout and Garden Peas are of the same family and closely related, maybe not? I'd love to know why 1 crop is great and the other not, hope someone has the answer.

Yes they are the same family, so I'm surprised you don't have any normal peas yet. Maybe it's a later variety - that's all I can think. What variety have you sown and when?

This year I've grown 'normal' (Hurst Green Shaft) alongside Mangetout (Sweet Horizon) and got 50/50.

Me too. The Peas will presumably get there in the end but still there aren't huge numbers of pods yet. They are still flowering so perhaps I just need that little word called patience...not 1 of my stronger attributes:).

When you say mixed up, do you mean both types are growing intermingled?

My hubby has also had his 'fill' of mange tout. Even the shiraz variety.

My peas are slow and very few. Have got a few more sugar snaps but only about four portions. Runner beans must have run off!!!!
