Normally, I'd be eating all home grown veg, but this year, it's a measly chilli, the basil, a potato and spring onion.

My vegetables are slow this year - potatoes all got blight and everything else hasn't moved for weeks.
I picked some pea pods yesterday and although the peas were small they were very nice (I tend to eat them raw as I pick them  they're nicer like that)
and I've had a few lovely raspberries, but I have to race the blackbirds to them.
I had a home grown shallot yesterday, in a salad.

I don't cook much, it isn't something I enjoy doing. I just eat plain easy food - things I don't have to waste too much time on.

I'm not sure if its just me but it seems to be getting harder and harder these days to get a decent crop of lots of outdoor stuff.

Insects are down in general but I find pests so much worse than they used to be.

I know the weather is rubbish this year but its trend I've noticed over a few years now.

Diseases like fungal problem just seem worse as well.

Well in the main meal this pm we had swiss chard, broad beans, dwarf french beans (frozen from last years crop) and salad leaves from the garden. Dessert was rhubarb again from the garden.

Struggling to eat the salad leaves & rocket before they flower. The cut & come again lettuce is a bit lacey but tastes ok. Might get some sugar peas in the next few days; kohl rabi & beetroot have stopped growing at about 10cm tall. However, the strawberries are magnificent this year. It's a 1.2m square raised bed, from which I've so far picked nearly 6 kilos of fruit... 3 lots of jam, 2 of ice cream, 1 sorbet, ice lollies for the grandchildren, muffins, strawberry cake... and we've eaten as many fresh as we could. :dbgrtmb:

Most of our crops are way behind as well - at least the ones that the slugs have left behind. They got 70 runner bean plants (still had 50 that we hadn't yet sold so replaced them), all our French beans but have sown a few more, all seven of our courgettes were eaten down to nothing but we still had five ready for sale.

The second cropping of rhubarb is going fantastically and I have orders for 11lbs of them.

Dinner today was spiced lentil soup, lamb curry using my home made curry powder and with home grown fresh chillies followed by gluten and sugar free apple crumble (from last year's crop) with the topping made from ground almonds and toasted sunflower seeds with Greek yoghurt.

We had two people with diabetes and one celiac. So needed to use my home made curry powder as shop bought ones tend to have gluten fillers - although they are certainly getting better about not using fillers or gluten free ones. Turmeric is the main filler, it's a healthy option, but don't use it when catering for celiacs just in case.
