We had some family around this weekend and I decided that a BBQ would be a good idea, so came with this.

Take one old swing, an old metal shelf, an old bit of reinforcing mesh and some chain.

I reckon that it didn't make a bad job of cooking the shoulder of lamb and butterflied leg of lamb.:)

And to keep us lads out of the house, I fired up the old washing machine drum.:D

So what throw out goods have you found use for?

You've done really well there Eddie and I like your old washing machine drum as a fire. I give 10 out of 10 for imagination on both counts. :dbgrtmb:

I brought our antique Bristol sink here and have my giant cane Begonia planted in it ... you can just see it in this photo ...

I also brought over my old milk urn and put a pot of herbs on top of it.

I'm losing the net so will post a picture later perhaps.

Got my link back ... here it is on the right next to a very ancient Portuguese one ... (but don't have the herbs on top) ...

I am of the never throw anything away type person
Well when we returned from Gibraltar 40 years ago, our goods were shipped in 2 crates 10' x 4' x 5'
When empty I dismantled them and stored them in the attic
            20 planks 10'x1' x 1.5"
            20 planks 4' x 1' x 1.5"

            This week I have built a 20'x4' x 2' raised bed
Due to Scrungees posting IF I AM LUCKY I will be able to afford to fill another one

Previously we had double glazed windows replaced by patio doors I kept the windows and are now a cold frame, a bit heavy though 6'x4 double glazed glass
The old Fyfe stone fireplace that was the in thing years ago, when dismantled I kept the stone and it now edges my borders in grey stone 18" long 2" wide and 4" deep (the stones not the borders lol)
When the council went from the old black bin to the new wheelie bins I managed to keep mine and glean two for water buts

Two of the old 1950s prams kept the wheels, which I use to take my extension ladders down to the kids homes for maintenance and made a bogie for the middle grandson

That is about it for the Garden still got an attic load of stuff for other projects that may crop up in the next fifty years though I am 64.9 now :)

our village Tesco has recently installed gadgets on the wheels that automatically lock the wheels when the trolly is pushed out of the premisis/carpark

the trolley attendants (think thats what they are called) have some gadget that then unlocks them

I think half my garden must be re-cycled. Several old TV 'stands' are in use as a means of moving plants in and out of the greenhouse when hardening them off. At least 3 plastic water-butts which, over the years developed a split in them, have had the bottoms cut off and whilst the tops become compost containers, the bottoms are great for herb growing. Most of my old windows were carefully set aside when they were 'replaced' and are either in use as cold frames or are merely laid on the ground to help warm up the soil. There are endless uses for old washing-up bowls, CDs, video tape and corks. The swing frame was, for many years, used as a runner bean frame, the old rabbit hutch is the perfect place to keep potatoes, onions etc. Bricks from a demolished piggery line both sides of all my gravel paths. Plastic washing-up, shampoo, shower gel containers are cut up into labels of varying lengths, 'hoses' from old vacuum cleaners, once slit along their length, provide 'rabbit' protection at the base of newly planted trees, 2lt lemonade bottles equal mini greenhouses; net curtains keep the birds off my soft fruit whilst old tights can be used to store onions, apples etc. and an old 'squeegee' mop is great for putting coolglass on the bits of the greenhouse I can't reach. Having removed the fabric, old-fashioned style lamp shade frames make good plant supports and I've even found a use for some old curtain rail - yes .... if the sun gets too hot and threatens to scorch my seedlings, I can pull a curtain :loll:

As I don't have corks I use empty snail shells on top of canes :dbgrtmb:

Is that proper green recycling? :heehee:

Recycling is most definately.."my thing", here's a long list...

Greenhouse staging made from an old paint shops display stand

Strawberry bed made from old broken scaffold boards.

Compost area made from old pallets.

Patio made from an old back yard of someone famous (or infamous) ["De yer ken John Peel"]

Retaining wall built from an unwanted older wall

This little structure made from yet more discarded display stands.

And a pergola made from a local garden centres discarded plant display stands..

A raised bed from the sides of logs at the local timber mill, normally this gets "chipped".

Old recycled bricks in use as a pathway

Yet more timber sides, and more stonewaork, this time from an old fireplace, the seat is the hearthstone.

Even an old black pallet gets used as a bit of decking

And another raised bed area made from recycled old plant stands and unwanted timber log edges.

Now I am starting that whole process again down at our Allotment plot, and recycling materials is a weekly sometimes daily thing...more of that on my Blog.

                        Steve...:)

Are the logs from Wythop? I thought they'd closed the mill and converted the buildings
