A good question to bring up again, Mowgley! Now that we have loads more members, maybe the answers will be a bit different.....

When I asked this ages ago, a lt of people said that it was something nostlagic, and others, whatever was blooming at the time! So let's see......

My choice varies, as I get to know new plants, but from a nostaigia point of view, it has to be the Lilac - I remember the tree in my garden when I was little, and it was a lovely scent. That scent still takes me back there to that time.

And as for things currently in bloom - not a lot can beat a snowdrop!

Antirrhinum (Snapdragon) especially when in straight rows of different colours all standing to attention like a parade of soldiers.

My favourite is usually the next plant that flowers that I've not seen before, having said that, Yuccas are always good and remind me of hotter places, this is yucca whipleii, one I will probably never get to flower again.

Lovely pic, pete ... ever the optimistic, huh?

There are so many, however, mine has to be the Carnation. Besides being a beautiful flower, it has the most wonderful spicy scent.

I have more luck with them here than I did in England. In fact, they spread like wildfire here. This year I've started two new ones ... a double yellow and a candy stripe so I'm looking forward to having a house full of them giving off their perfume this summer.

Freesias are running a close second and they do wonderfully here as well, except they bloom March-April rather than the Autumn.

Thank you, Waco, you doll! That one is my favourite colour and they are soooooo headily scented. Assume you have that blooming now inside? If so, take a deep breath over it for me please.
