How and why do you do this. My lawn is 9mth turf and it seem to be growing eradically. I have put on summer feed 2 weeks ago and will put on another in 2 weeks. Some bits have grow very green and lush but the thin bits havent altered.
It is obviously not growing in some area.

hi got the same problem i put down evergreen and it doesnt matter how even i put it on and i done about 20 different methods! no matter what i do i get the same problem . if you put too little on it doesnt work and very patchy and if you put too much on you burn and damage the grass. after 3 years i dont bother too much now i just make sure i do my best to get the balance right first time knowing that a little bit will be patchy, make sure it gets plenty rain/water leave it to grow a bit longer than normal and then repeat and you shouldnt go to far wrong. the longer you do it the better it becomes .. just stick at it

Scarifyng; to take a fine rake (Springbok) and rake the area to remove all dead thatch and other debris in the lawn.
Once a year is usually sufficient around autumn time.
It reduces that spongy feeling underfoot and stops dead material in the lawn becoming a potential threat of disease by decay.
It also allows air and water to penetrate the soil.

Many thanks. The problem isnt the dispersal of the feed as it was like this before I fed it. Should it be lush of does a new lawn turf take time to bed in. The edges are fine just the middle.

Jean - my turf has been down since may and I have looked after it as much as possble, ensured it is well watered and fed with a granular feed every few weeks. It sounds exactly the same as yours, soe bits are lush, some barely grow and the edges are the best. I am hoping it just takes time to establish. Is your drainage okay?
I know my improved a little when I went round putting holes in it with a garden fork. (hard work though!)

I Never use any form of granular lawnfeed with the only exception being a granular pree seed mix prior to laying turf or seeding. quite simply its too easy to over apply.

I usually use a liquid feed of 15-0-6 nitrogen and potash in early spring followed by two aplications during the cutting season of ferrouse iron (iron sulphate. Iron sulphate has the benefit of 'green up' without causing a growth surdge.

The products i use i get via a horticultural suplier (being in the trade). The best feed i can recomend to apply by a spreader would be seaweed and this should be readily available.

Back to the main question, scarifying is the process of removing thatch from the lawn. Thatch is the fibrous layer of missed clippings that gathers around the base of the grass plants and if left unchecked will encourage moss due to it's ability to retain moisture.

In reference to your problems regarding lawn feeds, correct dose and even application are as important as the quality of the feed used.
