    Moin everyone,

as a long time follower of politics both domestic (Germany) and abroad, I am wondering if everyone suddenly turned mad...
Let's ignore the kremlin gremlin and everything he has done for a second and look around. Of course this is heavily subjective and can only reflect my personal opinions and what I can get out of the media.

    - Germans elected a green/labour government that actively tries to keep a few nuclear power plants from shutting down to beat the energy crisis, whereas the conservative and neoliberal parties try to stop them. At the same time the pendulum swings from "free money for everyone" and "we are broke" whenever you look a way for a short time
    - Italy is getting ever closer to electing extreme nationalist positions
    - Sweden almost the same, but for slightly different reasons
    - Poland wants to go back to the golden age of family values and ever stricter policies regarding women's and LGBT rights
    - Hungary has a pseudo dictator in charge
    - UK electing a new PM behind closed doors and just after she did what she said she will do, everyone wants to get rid of her all of a sudden.

I don't know if its just me, but I think there used to be more stability and years of peace before. Now it seems there are no breathers between one crisis and the next.

I'd like to hear a few opinions

Must admit I don't take an awful lot of notice of other countries politics unless they affect the UK.

But there does seem to be a lot of dissatisfaction with the quality of candidates when it comes to voting.

Things used to be a lot better back in the days when I ruled the world. :blue thumb: At least, that's what my psychiatrist said I think. :old:

The populace is so disgruntled with politics as they were they would vote for anyone who offers change. Witness Trump, not to mention Adolf.

I think Liz the Robot will try and hang on by replacing Kwasimodo as the chancellor. I think Larry will do a better job and he already lives at 10 Downing Street.

The worst curse you could wish upon someone....

But I am really eager to see what happens to Madame Truss. You could basically sum up her work so far with "I wish for me and all my friends to become really rich.". I mean reducing the taxes for the highest tier of taxpayers while the NHS and pension funds are a shaky as they are was a bold move. Even she had to do a full 180 on that.

Always quoted as a Chinese curse but the only references found to it are made by British politicians saying it was a Chinese curse. Apparently nobody has told the Chinese about it. :heehee:

As far as Truss and Kwasi are concerned I just dont think they thought it all through, I dont think they have enough brain cells between them to do the job.

I think the reaction the mini budget got was totally unforeseen by them.

As a layman I dont really understand what all the fuss is about or pretend to understand it, but in their position they should have seen it coming.

I stole it from the late Terry Pratchett. In one of his books one of the characters, a diplomat I think, politely greets his counterpart with whom relationships are very strained with, may you live in interesting times.

Terry Pratchett wrote a book titled Interesting Times; set in the counterweight continent Agatean Empire as it is invaded by Cohen and his aging barbarian hoard assisted by a retired schoolteacher, Rincewind and his multi legged luggage.

Kwasi Kwarteng has a PhD in Economic History. Now he too is economic history.
I see the pound is still slowly falling against the dollar.

Ohhh how I miss him . (Terry Pratchett, not Kwasi Kwarteng!).
But back to politics.....France had a chance to 'go back in time' at the last election, and vote in a Président who promised to make France great again, tackle immigration, make life better for ordinary working people etc etc. Sound familiar? He was immediately branded right-wing/nationalist/racist by the Press and media, who had to divide the bile usually reserved for Marine LePen and share it around. There's no worse epithet.
I think Zemmour's worst crime was to be independent, not a career politician and not part of the 'Establishment'. He might just have fulfilled his promises, we'll never know. Then again, he may have perpetrated a sort of Frexit. Not necessarily by exiting the EU but simply making promises in order to enrich himself and his mates. Now who does that remind me of?
Macron's not all bad. He's an impressive statesman, strong, confident and intelligent. But the bottom line is that, in a staunch republic, he's living like a King whilst advising us lesser mortals to live like paupers, tighten our belts, save the planet etc etc. For some reason, this time, there's no active opposition which the genuine Gilets Jaunes provided pre-Covid. I've no idea where it will all end but I'm extremely thankful that we've got enough land to be able to feed ourselves and provide alternative sources of energy if need be!

There's a right fiasco going on right now. Just listening to Jeremy Vine on radio 2. There's hell on.

In short, there's been an almost complete U turn on the mini budget. We're all going to be more skint. Lots of people are reporting that Liz Truss is not I'm charge. Someone referred to her as a squatter. There are predictions that she'll be gone by the end of the week.

Now that all her plans have been scrapped it is obvious she got where she did by fraud.
