I assume it's for the garden, or something to do with horticulture anyway. As you can see the prongs are very short but with the handle it stands at about 5 feet high. It came from my late partner's parents' house and I am wondering what it's for. Anyone have any ideas ??
We have one of those somewhere in our shed. It's a weeding fork to reach to the back of borders when the ground is very soggy. Nowadays they tend to make them three pronged with flatter tines. It's not a pitchfork as they had curved tines that usually are splayed out slightly - as did compost forks.
Long, straight handles are the norm over here on horticultural and agricultural tools. Perhaps it originated in forn parts
