The seeds are my favourite kind, "Free Seeds With Every Issue" and were scattered to a pot housing some bulbs last November-ish.

The stems and small leaves are grass like, and the first open flower is surprisingly large for the spindly growth. The stems are weak, breaking and bending in the wind but that doesn't seem to bother the plant very much (in a truly Montypythonish way... :heehee: )

I like the way it sways and the flowers and buds are pretty. I might want to sow it next year in a better position if I can get the name.

There are some other bits and bobs in the pot but the grass like growth belongs to the plant I'm interested in.

    Thanks!

Corncockle (Agrostemma githago)? I'm not sure as I pretty much just grow perennials, I'm afraid.

Thank you Nick, spot on! Corncockle (or "illegitimate child Nigella" :th scifD36: ) it is. :)

If it behaves well this summer I will certainly start growing it.

Edit- the forum changed the B-word rhyming with custard in the common name to "illegitimate child".

The overzealous censorship on this forum is infantile, prudish and tiresome. :frown:

The B word rhyming with custard is bustard isn't that a bird?

The bar steward word is, i think actually a legitimate word.
The royal family are known for them.

It's nothing to do with the forum. It's the server that we run on and we can't do anything about it. :noidea: They have changed things over the years and allow through more than they used to. :)

We do have a 'Profanity' rule (Rule 11) but the server takes care of most things. :blue thumb:

I'll have to get a proper Geordie to answer that

Very off topic, a dear colleague has a real Geordie accent that for some reason totally contradicts with everything I had learnt about English language-we just couldn't get through a sentence about the weather without a lot of confusion. We spent years of pardon mes, sorries, can you come agains until she unfortunately hurt her back in a bad way.

She was given some hard core pain killers and from the day she began taking the pills, we were suddenly understanding each other's accents 100%.

We still joke that the medicine is an anti-geordie-accent pill  and also agreed not to divulge this in public in case any Sunderlandians are watching :heehee:
