In full bloom and looking quite content on our evening wander around the block only night before last, I was quite surprised to see something like this blooming in December!

Yes it is a lovely plant ,and although mine loses its leaves at some point through winter it still comes back mid summer until Feb / March .

I think I've heard they are easy to get going by cuttings , not sure if the right time but I dont mind having a go at rooting some for you if your intrested.

I found with salvias they'll root just by staring at them, so yeah, quite easy!.
My hot lips will not tolerate drying out and throws a strop by sending out pure white flowers. Quite attractive but not what I want

I knew I was doing something wrong!
Here, within the chalk filled hills on the outskirts of Brighton, a really good watering will disappear in minutes:wallbanging:
I used to dream of having clay soil to stop seepage....until I did some work on a clay filled garden:yikes:

Neither's ideal. There are some lovely silt-filled river valleys round here, if you don't mind being under 3m of flood water every 5 years or so. Whoever designed this planet really didn't do a very good job of it, did he/she?

I must admit that Hot Lips is not a face of mine. Equally as hardy but far nicer (IMO) is Nachtvlinder. Mine is still blooming even after a couple of light frosts.

Most of the shrubby Salvias are useful rather than exciting IMHO  'Joy' is one of the prettiest, but seems to have disappeared without trace here......typical!:noidea:

So is mine! I do intend to get 'Amethyst Lips' at some point, which I've wanted for months but keep forgetting to buy! :wallbanging: I absolutely love the white and purple flowers, just gorgeous.
