Although I've been growing chillies for years I have never seen anything like your photos. They certainly don't look like chillies to me.

logi06; I'm afraid that's not a chilli plant, it looks more like millet (bird seed)!

It's not a chilli Logi, and whatever it is it's getting too much dry heat.
Is it growing in a conservatory ?

If you're feeling worried about getting the plant wrong then read on.

When my Mother in laws father died she found a tray of seedlings in the greenhouse.
Thinking it was the last thing her father ever planted she set out to raise them with all the love she could give them.
She was brilliantly successful and got a great tray of Chickweed !

It happens to us all Logi. I won't tell you what I raised and planted !

It's easily done Logi, like Alice I've seen people carefully raise weeds not realising - a couple of years ago on here someone raised a lovely 'fat hen' weed to about 5 feet high thinking it was a tomato.

Hi everyone and thank you - even though I have only grown chillis twice I am concerned at what you say. I still have the packet - they are Fothergills - should I take pics and send them to the company?

You could do that but a suggestion first. If you have some of the seeds left in the packet see whether you can get a close up photo of them and put it on here.

There is a possibility that you planted genuine chilli seeds but somehow got some millet into the compost. The millet may have grown and the chillies may not have germinated. Do you use bird seed to feed birds either indoors or outdoors?

It's always possible to get a few rogues amongst seed packets - a photo of the seed would help us. If Fothergills have made a mistake they might refund the cost of the seed packet.

The rogue seeds could have been in your compost and not in the packet.
You could contact Fothergills but if they're like Thomson and Morgan you won't get a reply. Shame really as I've always found them to be very good but when I had a complaint about non germinating seeds I got no response to 2 e mails.
I would write it off to experience Logi. Life's too short to get upset about that kind of thing. There's always next year. Hope your chillies will be great then.

I've, twice, had trouble with germination on Fothergills seeds and they have replaced them both times.

Good for Fothergills Shiney. I would have expected the same from T&M but was sadly disappointed.I'm not making a crusade out of it - too many other things to do.
