I've taken up 9 dwarf Rhododendrons from one border in the front garden because I'm going to replace them. I'm going to dig another border to make space for them, but for now they are in pots. I've made a list of what I've got so the next job is to plan what is going where in the border. This is not helped by the fact that some of them were obviously mislabelled when I bought them last year, so I've got to wait for them to flower before I know definitively what varieties they are

Pulled up about a zillion more sycamore seedlings

I've also planted out a Clematis armandii :spinning:

Planting a yard each of Alderman, Sugar snap and Mushy peas in guttering. Then onto a few bean varieties in coffee cups. Cheers, Tony.

I think I might carry the plastic box of junk from my new patio to the scruffy end of the garden today. (I'm feeling a bit lazy today)

            Hi All

Just having a break , large mug of tea thought lets check on here.

To my shock I have had to water plants planted in the garden I cant believe it hasnt rained for over 3 weeks, but we have a Bank Holiday on monday so it should all change then and one today I just thought. The river at the bottom of the garden is only about 6 inches deep normaly this time of year its about 2 to 3 feet deep !!!

So just been having a general tidy up and feeding all the borders (rose food) and any old compost spreading that out thinly in the borders as well , need to cut out a new section along the lawn for the daylilys to go in, but waiting on some horsemuck before they get planted so hopefully not too long to go before they are all planted out.

            Spruce

Same as you Spruce, just popped in for a quick look at GC while I'm having a tea break.

Been having a pruning session today, pruned Viburnums, Potentillas, Dogwoods, Aucuba and a Cotoneaster hanging over from next door's garden.

Also given an Escallonia, which contained a fair bit of dead wood, a hard prune to re-invigorate it. Made it look a bit sparse for now, but it will recover I'm sure.

All prunings have gone through the shredder and been added to the compost heap.

I've returned all my seedlings to the greenhouse from my sons now uninhabited bedroom, after the cold spell. Washed a number of pots and trays and cleared out one of my pot storage containers.

I really need to pot on the last 300 or so seedlings, but couldn't get my head round that today. There's always tomorrow. :)

Oh, and I checked my Ceonothus cuttings for signs of life as I'd thought I'd lost them. They are looking sad but they have roots, so I shall leave them for a while and see if they spring into life.

had a good laugh at a thread that was posted on a USA (non gardening) forum

                        snip:

Hope I am not being a spring grouch. Spring has sprung and neighbors are mowing their lawns every other day! I kid you not. Even at these high gas prices!
It is impossible to hear the chirping of the birds, the rustle of the wind and leaves, the laughter of children playing outside, or to just sit quietly and read, meditate, or take a walk, whatever. All you can hear is one lawn mower after next. And as soon as the grass grows a tiny bit it starts all over, again. It is like a war against nature.

I have a theory on this: People have much to take care of in the inside (their homes and their affairs and inside their minds) but don't want to, so this is an easy escape and gives an outward impression to their neighbors that all is well.

Leave the grass alone people, save gas, just do it when necessary and attend to your other junk: mend relationships, learn that language or software you meant to, apply for that job you are interested in, clean your closets, clean your garage, make a plan for finances, weight loss...whatever. It will pay off much more than the grass clippings you scattered around. Hope I am not being a spring grouch.
