What on earth is happening to my lemon tree?

Well this is the first of a few attempts to grow a fruit tree. I've had a crack at a mango tree, it survived for around 4 months and was doing really well, but then for some reason it just suddenly snuffed it. Lord knows why (I'm guessing the climate finally caught up?).

Anyway, so I'm currently growing a lemon tree. It is over a year old now, but lately (past couple of months), I've noticed this on some of the leaves: [IMG]

Potassium deficiency possibly? Your thoughts please, ladies and gents?

    Thanks again folks.

EDIT: What should I do to these leaves? Cut them off or leave them be?

I think it MAY be insect damage.
Or it could be scorch, the sun shining on wet leaves.

I had the same on my lemon tree after it had been outside for a while and found some tiny little black bugs on it.

I've noticed a couple really small flies buzzing around. Were the bugs you found fmay of the flying variety also?

The flies I have seen are small black ones. When I water sometimes, it disturbs them and they frenzy around for a short while then they settle back down to the soil (usually).

Does anyone know whether it is a good idea to cut off the leaves that are affected or leave them?

Thinking back about it we weren't sure whether they were tiny black (dead) bugs or similar to worm poo:confused:
    Can worms infest the leaves?
It cleared up with some bug spray and supplies us with huge lemons.

Ok, and do they do that in spray bottles or do you have to dilute it yourself? :p

Well, I've taken some precautions by moving it out of intense sunlight and just incase it is something to do with fungal infections, I'm letting the soil dry out a little also. I hope it isn't root rot or something like that. I've noticed that it is only 4 or 5 of the lower leaves that are affected.

The spray is at home so I can't tell you what it is atm :)

It was ready use and in a purple spray bottle but that is as precise as I can be - I'll follow it up later :thumb:

Ok, so I've repotted my lemon tree and it looks really quite impressive:

Great fmay, if you could forward me the details of that spray that'd be great.
Oh and if anyone else has any recommendations, they are welcome with open arms!

EDIT: I found this for anyone who has similar problems to what I have.

    The plant looks good GG.
I think the pot is a little big for a plant that size though

Trouble is, you could get root rot.
A large mass of wet compost surrounding a small root system.

Pot growing is not the same as planting in the ground.

Its normally suggested that you increase the pot size slowly, so that the roots can fill a pot before moving to a bigger one.:)

    D'oh!

So what precautions should I take for watering in this pot?

    You've got me worried now.

Just make sure it doesn't get too wet, if its outside, it could.
