    Hi

This was found in the garden whilst clearing out a new space for beds.

Does anyone know what it is? It`s quite a funny little thing.

    :) Evening Lolli ...

I was just shutting down and saw this ..... interesting. It looks like it's brass.

I would have said a finial but the base is a bit long for that me'thinks! Not knowing the size of it  could it be the handle of a piece of a companion set?

Or even a candle snuffer that has broken off?

    Initial thoughts .....

No hallmark, I think it is brass. The snapped off end is slightly curving to the left, if that helps.

    Hi Jan,

It`s a bit too short for that-I`d burn my fingers LOL. It`s a double edged sword having an old house with an old garden-I found the remains of a cobble road a few weeks ago. Old brass miniature horses, huge iron hooks horseshoes etc-at one time it was stables for the horses when part of the house was a bakery. The kids love looking for treasure. I on the other hand just can`t seem to finish it.

Hi Lollipop, maybe then it is something to do with a Forge? My Grandad was a Blacksmith and he made very ornate things in his time. Fascinating isn't it? I just love old things, I can get quite carried away imagining who has held it before and what an interesting tale could be told of bygone days? Lucky YOU! Jan

ooooh Spud you`d love it round here. There is evidence that an Roman Fort was near me, there is stuff about the middle ages lying around everywhere. I live in what is locally known as "The Village" that is the street I am on was the whole village-Church up at the other end of the street, farm across the road, old butchers next door to that and my house was the old bakery. We are all finding stuff all the time, if it had been developed with consideration instead of the usual Redrow invasion it would still be a very lovely village, unfortunately it is now just a rat run.
