    Hi Guys,
I was pleased when I found this `Flamingo flower`(Anthurium scherzerianum) at a Car Boot Sale last year. The seller said it wasn`t an easy one! But my daughter-in-law,who neglects all her plants, has one I`d admired- so how hard can it be? The seller gave me a care sheet too-it talked of bright placement but not direct sunlight, high humidity and a fairly high constant temperature;I did most of that, maybe not the temperature bit-how high exactly? It doesn`t sound like the treatment my daughter-in-law gives hers but hers is healthier than mine!? How come? Flamingo Flower.jpg

Are the brown leaves close to a window, draught or radiator?

Thanks for your reply longk. No, it's on a fire surround (unused for heating), opposite a window so plenty of light but only occasional direct sun and even then not in the hottest part of the day. It's nowhere near the radiator either. I'm at a loss. Krista

Firstly, you may need to pot it on into a slightly bigger pot and now is the time to do just that.
Have you been misting it with water to keep up the humidity?
Not so sure your focus should be on the how high, but more on the how low.
It shouldn't go below around 15c/60f So, if the room you keep it in falls below that temperature during winter months, that could be why yours isn't thriving as you'd hoped?

    Thanks for all your suggestions.
Temperature could be a problem then!(dunno if I have a warmer room?) and I could try it nearer a window but then it`s in danger of getting `burnt`leaves.No-I don`t mist it,I`ll try that too. A BIGGER pot?Really? It`s quite a tall pot(7" tall) and 6" diam.Looking at it I wouldn`t have even considered that-I potted it up a size when I got it last summer and would again if it had grown bigger but it hasn`t. But I`ll try anything. It`s not a specimen that likes to have it`s roots crowded then?(some do!)
It looked a bit better when I bought it and when a few leaves died I thought -no worries-it`ll acclimatise but it hasn`t really. You can see new leaves but the older ones die as fast as new are produced.
How does my daughter-in-law get away with leaving her specimen parched dry & miles away from a window?- sometimes even in the dark when she forgets to draw the curtains! :dunno: She`s not careful about placement, watering(never mists!) and would never pot anything up unless it split the pot open.It even flowers for her-:gaah:pah!
    BTW we(perhaps I should say`I`) need a sulking smiley...Krista
