I have just had a 40 year old Leylandi removed in the back garden and now I'm left with this rather large stump. I have arranged to have the rotten fence replaced but I wonder if anyone has any ideas on what to do with the stump to make it more attractive . The birds are using it as a feeding station but I was thinking of an evergreen climber of some sort for the trunk .

Hire a tree carver, the dog in your profile pic would look nice :dbgrtmb:

I don't know if you have kids or not, but if you do, I'll bet they'd love it just as it is. Its a thing to climb on. High enough to make them taller than everyone else, but low enough so that if they fall off its not too far to go.

Not sure the height your talking about. But, I had one for a few years, about 6 inches high. I chipped away at the center some and planted sedums, and hens and chickens. After a few years the stump naturally wasted away. Moved the sedums & hens and chickens. And in fact this year yanked out the balance of the shrub, and put five huge bags of top soil in the hole. For now not doning anything to that area.

Again, don't know the hight of this stump. You could make sure it is level. put a good flat stone on top of it and position an interesting colorful crock with a draping plant in it, making it an eye catching spot. Just now noted your wee pictures in your first frame. It is a little high, but looks like you could hang stuff from it. Or get a wood carver to make something out of it.

It's a shame it's not a bit lower...could have put a couple of chairs either side of it...it would have made a handy table:thumbsup:

Reduce the size by half, fix some recycled timber/planks/floorboards to the top and turn it into your garden table? I would strip the bark off and wax it to match the top.

Sculpture, or halve it to make a stool - in fact, two stools!
