I completely forgot about these amaryllis which have been indoors, in a hot room all year! Should I cut the greenery off, sit them outside for 2mths, then bring inside and hope they flower sometime next year? Anything else I should do?

I usually grow them like this rather than forcing them to flower in winter.
I dry them off now and let the leaves wither, then leave dry and cool before repotting in March or April.
They usually flower then in June or July.

Would have been better if you had fed them after flowering right through the summer to build up bigger bulbs.

I was given an amaryllis for Christmas last year. I let it die off naturally, giving it a feed when in flower. It spent most of the summer outside in its pot. I noticed a leaf showing about 2 months ago, brought it indoors and it has just finished flowering so no hope of flowers for Christmas. This is their "normal" time to flower.

@pete- Do you mean 'fed' with a liquid, indoor plant feed or something else?

          OOOOPS! Sorry.
I gave mine a light dusting of Fish, Blood and Bone along with a light sprinkling of slow release granular general feed. Growmore, other brands available.

Just a high potash liquid feed like tomato plant feed.

But I wouldn't do it now, to my mind its too late, it needed it through the summer as the leaves are building up the bulb in the growing season.

Normal indoor plant food would be ok.

I shall start feeding mine again now to keep it going until it settles into a regular flowering routine. It is the dark red type, carrying 4 or 5 flower heads per stem. It looks great when in flower but pretty boring when resting bald and when in leaf. The bulb is huge. I have kept it on a South facing window sill getting a good bake when the weather is sunny. I also put it outside during the summer to have a good soak of rain water but you have to keep an ete out for slugs, they seem to love munching the leaves.
