I have a lot of wood ash I dont know what to do with as I have a wood burning stove.

What should I do with this?
Is there a time of the year I should dig it into the earth?
Are there any vegetables that benefit more from wood ash?

do not dig it into the garden in any large amounts, put a bit at a time on your compst heap, mixed with the usual waste.
dont put it round your roses.
you could put some along the edges of your borders, or veg plots, it tends to help to keep slugs away

I read somewhere that ash is good for storing carrots in.
I can remember my grandmother pooring ash down the holes before planting bulbs, so I suppose in some ways it can be a substitute for sand?

I think the old Victorians would have had plenty of uses for it!

    Wood Ash

I generally sieve any bonfire ash (dust mask essential!)and mix a good handfull in with a wheelbarrow load of compost. Don't use it for ericacious mixtures though as it's effects are similar to lime.
