What to grow for finches?

There is some sort of thistle that you can grow that birds like. What is it and howdo you grow it.?

 

Not sure but it could be teasel

Jean Teasel Dipsacus is easy to grow it's a biennial(if you sow it this year it will be next year before it flowers)pick a wild area of garden to grow it in, it's the favorite food of goldfinches.

 

Someone said its a nuisance as it goes all over. Have you grown it? Jean

 

I've grown it, and it does self seed.

Not difficult to pull out though.
But you need to keep on top of it.
