    Hi
I work in a small village school in Warwickshire and in February 2008 I led a project to create a Sensory garden at the bottom of the school field. We have just had our second harvest, I only have an hour timetabled a week to spend in the garden with the children and wonder if anyone could advice on things to grow through the winter - any suggestions?

    Hi and welcome.

How big is the garden? The only thing I can think of that gets planted in autumn/winter is new trees. There are spring flowering bulbs, but I think they should have gone in last month.

Someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly to tell me how wrong I am:)

    Hi,

You're fine with bulbs now-in fact Tulips can get planted in January and still flower. Your daffs need to go in now though.

That's useful to know. I'd planned to put some tulips in but I thought I'd missed my chance.

Definitely not missed your chance Clueless even up here in the north you have until the end of December if you want to be absolutely sure. I am inland whereas your nearer the east coast which is why I would say end of December for you-but here I have planted out in January and they have been fine.

What you may have missed is all the good ones to buy as they have been snapped up.

You might have missed the fancy expensive bulb varieties, but now is a great time to pick up some bargains!

Garden centres would rather discount their leftover stock than let it rot. Most spring bulbs should still be fine to go in now.
