Is that normal - hardwearing grass or the luxury ornamental type?

Any chance of a close up pic?
Looks like its turf laid down in a new build property? If so its unlikely to be luxury but I could be wrong.
From the pic it looks like... green grass!

Agree with Loofah, we need a close up to see what it is. Its going to be a mixture of grass varieties, the finer grasses (like fescues) are used for ornamental lawns, whilts hardwearing lawns have a higher percentage of co@rser ryegrasses.

No way to tell from so far away Meni8fr-it could even be astroturf from this distance.

It's not my lawn (wish it was) so no close-ups I'm afraid if a tougher ryegrass type lawn can look that good i'd be happy with that! - I'm wondering what i need to plant for my lawn.

It can with a great amount of care-and I`m not the one to ask-I keep trying to pinch the lawn off my hubby for flower beds-in fact it`s about that time for me to enact step two of my plan shortly-the loss of the back lawn.

Glad I'm not the only one doing that! The secret is to do it gradually, so they don't notice:hehe:

Losing the whole back lawn?:skp::cnfs: How you going to get away with that?

"I'm wondering what i need to plant for my lawn"

I think you've got two choices, put in simplistic terms:

    1) With ryegrass. Hard wearing, will suffer a lot of abuse and a fair amount of neglect. Can look smart (i.e. have stripes when mown with a roller), but will never win any prizes.

    2) Without ryegrass. Can look good enough to eat your lunch off!, but will need frequent attention, and a fair amount of pampering.

I suppose there is also (3) I expect you can get Astroturf which will look fantastic, and probably only need the Hover running over it once a year!!

With great cunning and downright deceitfulness, failing that I will take a leaf out of your book Aaron and chop a couple of inches from all round the sides each month, maths do not compute with me I`m afraid but I reckon it`ll take me some time.

That looks like standard grade turf.

Unless you are prepared to mow weekly with a cylinder mower and religiusly spray, water, feed and scarify then there is no point wasting money on fine grade turf.
