Evening Everyone, I've read elsewhere on this forum mention of USDA zones and that the UK has more than 1 zone. Please can someone tell me what mine is? I live in south of central Lincolnshire and the soil is the dreaded CLAY stuff!!

    Thanks loads,

    Springy
    xx

Thanks a lot Pete! Looks like either 8a or 8b then. I'll remember that,

Works for me Pete, as a guide anyway. I know if something is 9a minimum it needs shelter in winter, 8a I've never had a problem with, and 8b (where I'm supposed to be, although 5 miles inland is 8a) I just have to watch if it's valuable.

Thing is, if I plant on my allotment certain plants, they will not survive the winter, plant them in the garden near the house and they make it though.

As our cilmate is so much," not one thing or the other," the hardiness maps tend to be missleading, I think.

As a gereral guide yes, but as we only have about four zones, it seems pointless.
