What would you do different ?

If given the chance to start your garden off from scratch, a totally blank garden, would do it any different than it is now and if so, how, what and why?

The reason I ask is ... we've been bitten by the gardening bug recently after visiting a friends house and being stunned by the beauty of their blooms.
This has inspired us to get our wellie-gogs on and do something about our bit of terra firma (we've only sat looking at it now for about 4 years)

We are very curious though as to if 'real' gardeners really are happy with their creations

Wow! that's what I call a makeover! You're doing great stuff by the looks of it! And the fountain - oh yes!

As for me, I'd happily rip the whole lot up and start again - this time from the vantage of experience and knowledge which I didn't have before. Started as totally know-nothing newbie and am still reaping the 'rewards' of my inexperience!

Still, I've learned an awful lot ...

For my garden - its started as a plan which worked, and then evolved into something altogether different. As the evolution pleased, I am going with the flow.

 

Hi there, looking good so far. Im the same as Michaelmasdaisy and i have dug up and moved lots of things as ive gotten better at knowing where things would do better or look better. Im not too worried about the plants though as they are usually pretty easy to shift and will often let you away with the odd mistake. Poor things!

My main regret is that i didnt take enough time over the hard landscaping side of things. I was in too much of a hurry to get planting and really didnt know where to start with slabs and brickwork etc.

I think that most gardens are a constant work in progress though, so any early mistakes can always be sorted out next year or the one after.
