Hey guys i was wondering if you could help me please

As we are all from different backgrounds and age groups it think we find different things interesting and i want to appeal to as many people as possible.

Basically i have set up another Etsy shop this time to sell original drawings i produce and i need to write another about section. Honestly im really stuck and finding it ever so hard.

So if you are going to buy some work online from an artist what kind of information would you like to know about them or would find interesting and what kind of things would you not want to know.

    Thank you

Perhaps something that relates to the work, e.g. inspiration for it and the media used.

Since the website is work related (i.e. commercial), then maybe it would not be appropriate to have too much personal info (unrelated to art) on there. Although this could be covered with a tag "about me" for those who might be interested in this.

If the piece is signed an numbered by them, original signature. And how old they are.

@redstar that will be in in the individual listings. i will include size of each peice, material used, that its signed on the front, dated on the back and has what the subject is on the back.

But the shop has an about section where you have a bit where you can write about you and then also about the shop.

Heres the about section for my other shop

        https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/DesignbyHook/about?ref=shopinfo_about_leftnav

@rosebay yeh i agree with including what inspires me and materials i like to use.

The hard bit is deciding how personal to make it. lots of etsy shops have quite personal quirky about sections because they say to include a lot of personality and that people want to know about the people behing the shop.

But i dont know i struggle with that. Mainly i just think im not that interesting lol

If it were me, I would be interested in who you are and why you are driven to do what you do - it sort of 'gels' the whole thing together by underlining your passion for your chosen path/art (hope that makes sense?)

So, what drives you - is it something from your childhood, or an interest that you took up for a particular reason (after visiting somewhere, or working with someone)? What kind of person are you - are you into all types of art, or only driven by one or two things? That sort of stuff

You mean personal information? D'you know I'm not even sure I would bother to read that bit, I either like the artwork and would like to buy it or not, so just basic details would certainly suffice for me, perhaps age? inspirations for the drawings you have done i.e. views from windows etc., or people you have drawn?

Ah see thats the hard bit because i dont know lol. i just have always done art cause im fairly good at it so did art gcse, art a level and art foundation then I only didnt do a degree in art as i thought it doesnt really prepare you for a job so I did a degree in Interior Design instead as that trains you for a specific job. i just happened to graduate when the recession began and the architect studios were having to scale doen the interior departments because of it. the year above us who had all landed jobs were made redudent so that never happened and i went into marketing so that i would at least have a job.

The only reason this new shop is happening is because i did the 28 day drawing challenge on facebook and had several offers to buy my work so thought i had nothing to lose. I hadnt actually drawn for 4 years since becoming sick so that was my first time drawing again.

Should i include that but perhaps jazz it up a bit and maybe leave out that im a sickie

That is exactly the thing to include - flower it up a bit of course, but it gives enough insight. And please stop thinking of yourself as a sickie; there are many, many people that have various conditions (both short and long term), and sometimes those conditions dictate things that you can do and things that you can't; as long as you are good at the ones you can do, that is all that matters!

Ah i dont mind calling myself a sickie its a postive and i embrace it, my illness is a big part of me and dictates everything single part of my life and has evolved me as a person. i see it as more of a positive.

Sorry if its upsets others im just use to me and my fellow sickie friends calling ourselves sickies :-)

As long as you see it as a positive, then it matters not a jot what you choose to call yourself :blue thumb:

Just make something up that vaguely describes you, it is the artwork they should be looking at not personal details about you. Definitely don't include health details, not their business to know.

edited to add as I have now read the above, if you are happy for people to read it then include it!!

Yeh i um and ah about mentioning the ME

i kind of feel i should as the first drawings i have done for the shop are all blue flowers becasue the ME ribbon colour is blue and money from each sale will go towards Invest in ME who fund biomedical research into my illness.

As its ME awareness day May 12th and basically the whole month becomes an awareness month that is when the shop is being launched

So yeh I dont want it to define my shop in the long term but at the same time raising any awareness is always a good thing and lots of people have never heard of my illness. i know i didnt know it exsisted before i became sick. i had never heard of it before

So im in two minds about it

see your about section is then completely different to others i have read and is also a good take on it

                      Hmmm this is really hard

Hi Dips, thank you for your nice comments.

I am not influenced by anyone, just myself. I love nature ... trees, countryside, seas. Most of my artwork is because of travelling around the Algarve and photographing the scenery as I took up photography a few years ago. There are many threads here on GC about my travels over the years. A few years back my t'other half said I should change my style, which I did, with wild large flowers, painting with J-cloths, etc, but it wasn't me ... and to be honest, I haven't painted since!

Just be yourself and do what YOU want to do or feel comfortable with.
