What's buzzing or flying near you 2024 ?

Golden Plovers and a Lapwing/Green Plover/Peewit.

Had a huge flock of geese fly over today. The noise was incredible.

Just sitting looking through the patio doors, its wet and snowy out there but I can see a couple of 2 Robins, Sparrows, Starlings, Blackbirds, male and female, Bluetits, Goldfinches and Squirrels.
And none of them like the slice of Morrisons pizza I've put out for them.
Obviously food critics.

Fieldfare, the bigger of our two Winter visiting Thrushes.

 

It has been declared a Waxwing Winter as thousands have come across from Scandinavia searching for food (and not from the cold).
It has taken a long time for some to arrive in Dorset but 8 turned up in nearby area of Poole.
Normally feeding on Rowan, Cotoneaster and Rosehips but they are also partial to Mistletoe berries as these were.






The name comes from the small red blobs on the wing resembling sealing wax.

 

A slightly better attempt at capturing a red-throated hummingbird. On Russellia...

 

I had a lovely red Russellia but it got neglected and died!!! Must get another.
