I noticed this morning that somethings dug out one of my pansys, soil on the grass and a rather shocked looking pansy laying near by.

anyone got any ideas as to what's done it?

Birds probably, I have seen black birds lift fresh turf for worms. Also squirrels looking for their nut store. Then you have cats, but its sometimes too easy to blame cats.

My cat only sleeps in the flower beds ;) I find bare patches where he's been and don't have any squrrels near by, will keep an eye out for birds in my beds :thumb:

I remember finding a seedling oak tree growing in a big pot of houttuynia although there were no oak trees around - clearly it had been hidden by a squirrel which had ranged further afield than normal.

Were the pansies recently planted? Certainly, birds will uproot small plants looking for worms and I agree that blackbirds seem to be particularly fond (and highly skilled) at doing this.

    Yes flinty, just last week.

My mum has a oak seedling growing in her garden too, not bad seeing as the nearest one that I know of is atleast a mile away.
