I've only had this pear tree a couple of years and this year is the first time any fruit has appeared.

I thought I might be in for some nice pears until this happened ! anybody know what the problem might be ?

By the way, they are only walnut sized. I have another Conference pear nearby and that also seems to have problems. The fruit on that become very scaley and fall off before they have chance to grow.

    Hi Tyke.

Splitting usually indicates a lack of water at some stage, followed by plentiful amounts, IMO. As I understand it, young trees require plenty of water during their first year or two. No doubt someone more knowledgeable than I can advise you further.

    Cheers...Freddy.

I think you have got it Freddy.
    Insufficient water at some stage.

Might be due to not yet being fully established and able to ride out dry weather.

OK that makes sense, It's in a dry spot next to a wall. Hopefully when it's roots develop a bit more it might produce some decent pears.
    Many thanks

If it has been as dry where you are as it has here then you definitely should be giving it a good soaking. ten gallons per week minimum until the wet weather comes. :dbgrtmb:

By the way - that's a rather unusual shape for a conference pear. They are normally a teardrop shape. It looks more like a Williams or a comice.

Yes, my other pear tree (not shown) is a conference. I can't remember which one that is and the ticket has blown off.
