    Hello All

I've just moved and have a new garden, years ago I used to do alot of gardening but the last place I had just grass. In the new garden are quite a few trees and bushes with fruits on etc and before I plan out how I want the garden to look I would like to know whats in it first.

Soooo what would be best ...... Wait till spring/summer till they flower to ID them or if I post the pictures of them on here would anyone be able to tell me what they are? I'm sure a couple are blossom trees and I have ivy and some bamboo but as for the rest I'm not so sure.

    Thanks

    Pink

Hello PinkMist and welcome to GC:sign0016: It would be a bit tricky to identify deciduous trees and shrubs in January, perhaps, but we could have a shot at the evergreens! Bet you're itching to get started on the design!

Congratulations on your new home: wishing you many happy years there :dbgrtmb:

If you wanted to post pictures, members would surely give it a good shot at identifying them - especially if they still have fruits/berries. If they are bare, probably not a lot of good for ID purposes.

The main advice with a new garden is to wait one year and note down anything which pops up during that time. There are a good couple of reasons for this: plants are expensive and you wouldn't really want to rip out something you may later fancy having (even if it means moving it to a different area). Secondly, they can be an indication of what thrives in your soil/aspect/location and can prove a good starting point when you wish to redesign things. Another bonus is: then you can take more pictures of them as Spring/Summer progresses and members would have an even better idea when it comes to ID - win-win then :heehee:

Looking forward to getting to know you around the forums :)

Thank you so much for your replies, I think I'll take photos and post them tomorrow, the gardens front and back are in a bit of state but I know I can do wonders with it . I think I know a couple of so but would be great if you could look at them.

I'm looking forward to posting here , thanks for the warm welcome :spinning:

Welcome Pink! I echo what M says, photos make you really popular round here :heehee: You have to have a minimum post count to upload them so why not join in some of the other conversations going on, and perhaps tell us what your ideal garden would contain/look like?

Hello, here's pics as promised, took me a while as my daughter had my camera...1777 to 1785 are of my front garden. I know Holly and pampas grass and also I think I have a pyrocantha ( sorry for the spelling). Its most laid to gravel at the front, I need to make room for one more car but I want to make sure I get a good lay of lovely plants at the front too.

My next post will be the front....

There's lots of potential! You've got some nice evergreens and only one nasty weed;)
Photo 1) Looks like prostrate blue Juniper and a dwarf conifer..perhaps Thuja, with heather underneath. There's a bramble crawling through them, so try to trace it back to the main root (without getting savaged) and chop it all out.
                  2) Carex, an 'everbrown' grass that can be cut back to tidy it up. The small variegated shrub is an Euonymous. The grey stalks look like a nearly-deceased Lavender.
                  3) Carex again, Euonymous, Pampas and another Euonymous.
                  4) Holly with Euonymous in front, Tree Heather and Hebe
                  5) The Hebe, Heather and clumps of bulbs.
                  6) Holly, Euonymous, Heather, Hebe
                  7) Looks like a leggy Heather in the middle.
                  8) Guess what? Euonymous:biggrin:
                  9) Heuchera
