What's looking brown in July 2013?

Well, my lawn for a start.


After weeks with no significant rain and the present heatwave, it currently resembles a giant Weetabix.
We're on very light sandy soil here, so this is nothing unusual. It'll come back in time after a few good rains, it always does.
So, come on you lot, can anybody beat this?

Haven't got any of those on the lawn al.
Or were you referring to the fact that these are the dog days of summer?

 

Cant beat that Trunky.
We are on clay so it keeps the moisture a bit longer.

But that's how a summer lawn should look

 

You need a bag and a spade too ...

 

Can't compete with your brown lawn Trunky, mine is only slightly brown, but I think it now nicely contrasts the Lavender

My Miscanthus sacchariflorus too. Never known that before, so was not on the lookout for it. I've watered it now ... but probably too late for it to put on a good show this year.

 

Its only july,there is time yet given the temps im wondering what i wil have in flower aug/sept

 

The tips of all the leaves are dried to a crisp though :(

 

Lavender looks great there Kristen.
Mine's putting on a good show this year too. A hot, dry summer may not be great for lawns but the lavender loves it. Always a silver lining isn't there?

 

I had one of Sal's lotus plants in a black dustbin on the allotment.
To save heat I've been covering it with a piece of glass overnight.

Forgot to take the glass off for the first time yesterday, which coincided with the hottest day we have had so far, the water was actually too hot to touch almost when I got home last night.
I think I've killed it.

 

On my lawn, round the edging is brown and one of the corners..
