Curious tree we couldn't identify, and owner couldn't remember name. Definitely half hardy/sub tropical. Maybe someone else has an idea?

I've tried growing Embothrium a few times, could never keep them going longer than a couple of years.
Lots of interesting stuff, must be mild I would think.

Started a video I just posted from the garden today showing some plants in bloom with one of my surviving Embothriums that has bloomed for the first time this year and it is barely visible when I look at the video back again. Hoping the display is a bit better next year but out of initially planting about 6 it was only the two in the most sheltered spots in the garden that have survived this long, Definitely not an easy one to grow but the mature ones I see look spectacular at this time of year.

                  Happy gardening!

Yeah is interesting, good for you getting a few flowers, Ive given up, its too cold in winter and too warm in summer, and too dry mostly, and I dont have acid soil.
But I lived in hope for a few years.:roflol:

@pete , @Macraignil the garden containing the ones I saw is in Pembrokeshire, which gets close to Cornwall in mildness. Unfortunately my visit was a bit early - I saw photos of it in full bloom which were amazing! I have 2 seedling ones just about surviving in my greenhouse, and bought a small one from the owner, so hope I might get somewhere!

It's finally flowered! @noisette47 kindly sent me seed of peony rockii in 2016. Worth the wait :yahoo:
I have another due soon to flower for the first time which also might be from @noisette47 , or maybe from Plant Heritage in 2015. My third one has, I think, a couple more years to go
