I've just got this book called 'Veg Patch', one of a series by the River Cottage lot. It seems quite good, though not enough trouble shooting. It says turnip tops for August. I started some borlotti beans and valdor (?) French beans, some perpetual spinach, turnips, late caulis, cabbages, carrots, kale, on the back of what the book suggested. We'll see what works. I've planted the borlotti out and everything seems to have started well, though that was done during July. It's all totally experimental for me, as I've never really done it before.
