Hope someone can identify this. It currently is about a good 2ft tall and the bottom leaves appear different to the ones I have pulled off to try and show their shape. The "flower" is a sort of dark wine colour. Thanks for your help. Not the best photo but hopefully good enough. CIMG3468.JPG

Hi Silver Surfer, the plant isn't mine but bit was brought round for me to identify...I failed miserably! Sure you will be able to tell me what it is as you ALWAYS seem to come up with the answer. Hope this photo is clearer. The thin petals are the 1st leaf. Rounder ones presume are the mature. The head of the plant is about the size of a 5 p piece minus the surrounding petals. CIMG3471.JPG

        Many thanks..new pic really clear.
Pretty sure it is not a weed.
I believe it may be a Scabiosa.
Maybe one of the dwarf ones.
They have buds like that and have 2 different shaped leaves on a single plant.
Once you get open flowers it will be easy to tell if I am correct.
Do please add pics when the flowers open...probably be blue or pink.(or possibly white or pale yellow)
        I love all Scabiosa.

P.S. Think the top leaves in your pic come first.... then the cut leaf...as it develops the flowers stalks

Oh you could be right SS. I have Scabiosa and sure enough the flowers do start off looking like this plant. I will tell my neighbour to stop digging them up and wait and see! They have definitely arrived with something else and were not bought. No idea as yet what colour the flowers will be...hopefully the mystery will become clearer when the flowers open. Thanks for your help much appreciated.
