Hi all! hopefully this is the right place to ask! I've been told its probably hogweed.

Any ideas? Also how would I kill this / stop it from coming back?

Again, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask!

Hi Billy, welcome to Gardeners Corner :)

I'd say it was Achillea, more of a wildflower than a weed as it is quite pretty and easy to control.

I'm growing a cultivated variety from seed called "Summer Berries " for next year.

I agree with Dips and Anthony - it's Achillea (Yarrow) named after Achilles after his soldiers were supposed to have treated their wounds with it as it's very medicinal. I think I remember reading somewhere that it can also heal sickly plants which grow near it. I let it grow where it wants because, as Anthony says it is easy to control - the leaves are lovely and soft to walk on, and if you let it flower, the white flowers almost look flourescent at night. By the way @Anthony Rogers, I was just looking at 'Summer Berries' at the weekend with a view to growing it from seed next year - I'd like to know how you get on with yours. :dbgrtmb:

          Hi Lorea,
Well so far it's been easy, good germination rate and they're growing into nice plants. Gonna give them another month or so and they'll be going out :)

I agree with everyone above. It is Yarrow (Achillea millefolium). More of a wildflower than a weed as such. I have it growing in my grass every year but it is easy to kill off with glyphosate weedkiller (Roundup). Or, you could leave it to flower as it attracts bees, butterflies and ladybirds, but cut it down before it self seeds.
Hogweed is distinguishable by the purple blotches on the stems.

I have a packet each of seed for 2 cultivated Achillea - Achillea "Cloth Of Gold" and Achillea "Summer Berries"
There is some interesting information about yarrow here - http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/sit.../files/organic-weeds/achillea-millefolium.pdf
