I bought two small trailing fushias a couple of months ago from the garden centre. Unlike my other fushias these two have never really made any progress and some of the leaves are looking like they are starting to bubble up - very strange there are the odd bites out of the leaves and the bubbled up area's look like somethings bitten round it but not bitten it clean up. I have just potted them on in the hope they might do better and thre were no grubs in the compost and the roots look fine. The only thing I hae seen on one of then looked like a tiny beige spider. Is he the culprit? Would welcome your thoughts - should I bin them? Might whatever it is affect my other ones. Really dissapointed as from the most expensive garden centre around. My cheaper ones are doing great!

Hi ellie, I had something like that last year but the leaves curled up. I sprayed with a systemic insecticide and it cured them within a couple of weeks, hope this helps

    Thanks Cajary.

On closer inspection last night it looks like my fushias are playing host to some kind of ugly bug ball. There must have been no less than 7 types of creatures on them. I was worried about the dreaded vine weavil but didn't see anything that I think could have been that. They included; black fly, green fly, a tiny red spider, small brown things (about 2mm) that looked like a spider but with 4 legs at the front, a small black beatle, a beige spider, a couple of scale type insects, one dark brown and one white. I have sprayed with a general bug killer from ASDA which I got to kill aphids and will see what happens. I fear it is too late for my other fushias as they have just started to show the same signs I noticed one of the 2mm brown things on one of them as well and squashed it! Please tell me it's not the VW!

The leaf damage is not too bad it is just that these two plants seem to have hardly grown at all since I bought them a couple of months ago and my others have grown loads.

    Anymore thoughts anyone?

    Cheers EGW

Ok I have done a bit of research on the web and think the most likely cause of the leaf damage is the aphids I spotted. Don't think the VWs are present as they were not evident in the root system. I will keep spraying with bug killer and will plant some tagettes which I have siting in trays near by and see what happens. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. Cheers EGW [IMG] [IMG]

I sprayed with Provado, it's systemic. Goes into the plant and stops anything munching on them. That way you don't have to spray so often and it doesn't affect the bees and suchlike, cheers ;)

Hi Ellie, from your list of creepy crawlies the one I would be most worried about is the tiny red spider. If it is really, really tiny then I think you may have Red Spider Mite. David.
