While doing a bit of spotting for the National Hedgehog Monitoring Project, I came across a sequence, taken 19-08-24.
I've never seen a magpie like this before. Almost looks like it has been throttled.
Eyes look a bit odd, as well.
    Any suggestions?

I don't know, but there is a rock dove that visits me regularly and it has a similar appearance, unlike the others in its flock. Does your magpie seem ok, behavourily?

      Don't know.
This was in a sequence captured on one of the NHMP trail cams.

Maybe had a run-in with another magpie?

My first thought was that it had been caught in a noose of some sort, but I just don't know.
As I indicated, its eyes don't appear right, either.

Oh right yep. Could be the angle of the photo, but its eye looks a bit closed in, maybe? Would be interested to learn more. My rock dove feeds and flies normally - will try to take a closer look next time it turns up.
