A nice posh David Austin rose, called Mary Rose. Parts of the stem covered in horrible diseased looking patches of brown. What's wrong with it?

Black spot perhaps? I'm no expert but one of my roses had similar last year. I removed the diseased parts and am hoping it comes back bigger and better this year.

Thanks Lucy, I think an awful lot of the stem is like that so would need major surgery. Will probably ruin it for this summer then ..
