Afternoon remained dull and dreich, with the odd spit of rain, but nothing of any significance.

Right, sticking my head above the parapet here. :sofa:

Despite all the wind and rain we've experienced this winter, I have to say, as a full time gardener I prefer this to last winter.

Last winter, we had unrelenting cold and gloom, interspersed with bouts of heavy rain, with the ground conditions alternating between frozen and waterlogged, making it difficult to get on with many of the usual winter tasks.

This winter, although we've had frequent bouts of wet and windy weather, it has been milder throughout and the weather pattern has been very 'mobile', with the systems bringing all the wind and rain moving across the country quite quickly. As a result, there have rarely been two consecutive days the same, with a wet and cloudy day usually followed by a day or two of bright, sunnier conditions. In fact, sunshine totals for November and December, locally at least, have been above average.

We are of course at an advantage here on the eastern side of the country, as the storm systems moving in from the Atlantic usually hit the south and west first and by the time they reach us the wind and rain is often somewhat diminished.

So I'll take this over last winter's cold, gloom and biting easterly winds any time, although I do of course have every sympathy for those who have suffered flooding or storm damage in areas of the country less fortunate than us.

Yep, it's been warmer, but we're at saturation point in the west. No where else for the water to go now.

The trouble is, Trunky, that the Winter isn't over yet by far. North America is caught in heavy snow and near record low temperatures and the old saying "When America sneezes we catch cold" seems to be sometimes correct as we have often had a bad spell of cold, snowy weather after America has.:dunno::hate-shocked::snork:

I clicked like on your post @ARMANDII - whilst I agree with you, I don't like the idea that we are going to get hammered by freezing temps and snow next

I didn't like writing it, FC, but I'm not one for running away from reality:dunno::hate-shocked::heehee: We've got the best part of, say, 3 months, before the risk of a "cold snap", prolonged or not, disappears.!!!:sofa:

It's 8C this morning....the sky is partly cloudy and it's rained during the night but it's stopped now. It's a little breezy but strengthening winds are forecast for later today.

It started off lovely and sunny this morning, I'm glad I took Reggie out a walk then and not now... it's chucking it down!
