After 7 years!I am eventually nearly finished moving plants which had been plonked any old where by the previous owners.
I am clearing a space in an ideal bed for Osmunda Regalis next door to a huge clump of Rodgersia but not sure whether I should lift and replant the fern now or wait until Spring of next year. I live in Scotland so while it's lovely and sunny (miracle this summer) atm it won't be long before winter sets in.By moving the fern now will it get a chance to establish before the worst of the weather arrives? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Hmm, not entirely sure on when seasons change from cold to very cold in Scotland but as soon as it turns then dig up as much root as possible and plop in new location...

    Hi

Dont wait till winter to re-plant I would do it now or until the end of October , or early spring try and get a huge root ball and give the fronds a tidy up and mix in some multi purpose around the root ball when planting or leaf mould if you can get your hands on it but make sure you plant at the same level and check over the winter that they havnt risen out of the soil with frost etc , leaving to move later causes the fine roots to rot over the winter and they just sit in the soil doing nothing, ideal conditions now

(soil warm and if like me VERY moist (wet)) they will settle in before winter takes hold).

I have even split mine at this time of year and had great results
