Birds - especially pigeons - are nothing but a nuisance in our neck of the woods so besides nets, cages, poly tunnels or maybe a catapult, below is a gadget I concocted to deter these creatures.
    You will need ; -
i A block of wood about two inches cube with a hole drilled through the exact center.
ii Cut four slots at 45 degrees about half an inch deep with [tpi] a hand saw.
iii Four junk CD's with a flat ground / filed as shown.
iv Take something like a thick knitting needle cut to about 8 / 10 inches long.
v Cut a slot into one end of the 8 inch needle so the end can be spayed wider.
vi Put a small washer on the needle and push down to the splayed end.
vii Insert the ground edge of a cd into each slot then drill a fine hole at 45 degrees through the wood and the cd so a fine screw or panel pin can be tapped in.
viii Slot the block of wood on to the needle and then a small washer and bend the needle at right angles making sure there is clearance for the cd's to rotate freely. .
ix About an inch and a half from the 90 degree bend and the washer, slightly flatten the needle so the washer will no pass thus holding the block in place.

The stem of the needle can be slotted into the end of e.g. a cane and regardless of the direction of the wind the gadget will spin.

NB I originally used glue to hold the discs in the wood but over time it shrunk thus failed to hold the cds secure and in high winds they fell out hence the use of pins this time round.

Hope that is not to vague to follow. Cheers Dave.
