Very first year of planting anything, so very much a rookie.
I planted earlies 9 weeks ago, plants are getting pretty large (look like a mini forest) but no flowers yet. Yes I did earth-up, but have another question about that later.

Grandson, aged almost 5, wants to have his tatties on his birthday next weekend (he did plant them and lots of other veg too). Comments anyone?

    Many thanks
    Teressa

I have been informed you should dig potatoes up after the flowers have died back however i guess maybe some others can confirm this or tell you otherwise.

If you are using early potaoes as "new" potatoes, ther`s no need for the flowers to die, as you don`t want the spuds too big. Teressa, scrapes some soil from the base of the plants and see whats there. If there are any about the size of a hen`s egg then taked them off and use them. Put the soil back and the plant will continue growing with no check or harm to it`s growth. Jetplane, it`s only maincrop spuds thet you leave until they`ve flowered.
