As usual, I got carried away and bought some (3 bags  ) unidentified Hosta roots last month. I potted them up straight away and now we cannot really see out from the windows.

When can they go out? I have a blowaway plastic greenhouse which already stays frost free, do you think that I could start hardening my Hostas out there already? The leaves are fully open, I'm afraid they will suffer after being used to indoors temperatures.

Daytime temperatures here in the Eden of North East cost are around 5- ish and look to stay that way for a while.

    Thanks!

You can put them out as soon as any risk of significant frost has passed.

They would have actually been better off if you had started them outdoors.

I bought a couple of dormant roots a few weeks ago, potted them up, but left them outdoors. They will come up when they are ready.

      Thanks Sirius!

I know I shouldn't have kick started them indoors, but honestly, who can resist pots of nice compost and budding green leaves in February?

I have the patience of a teenage goldfish

I used to put my hostas in the greenhouse for the winter but one year just didn't have space and decided to take a risk leaving some out. They all survived so now I leave them out all year and I noticed this weekend that some of them are just poking through. The only thing I watch now is the pots themselves.
