Hi, I have a LOT of Privet hedge, I cut it a few times a year but it takes an age to do. I'm wondering when is the earliest I can cut is so that it will maintain shape over winter (stopped growing). and I wont have to cut it again till next year?
Basically its needing a trim now but I don't want to trim it now only to have to do it again in a month because its slightly out of shape. I assume it stops growing for winter so when is the "last cut". want it to be a nice shape over winter but don't want to wast time cutting twice in quick succession.

I live on the west coast of Scotland. Thanks

Cutting it and keeping its shape will keep the hedge nicer anyway.

I need to finish cutting mine now and then if it needs a small trim in a month or so i will do it again before winter.

Leaving it to grow out can leave it to get messy. The person who owned my house before me never cut it often and the hedge wasnt great

I have been cutting it more often and it ends up a lot healthier looking.

So i would cut it now and again if you need to anyway

It's difficult to say when the last cut should be Calum. It's not good to cut it after the first frost appears. If you can guess at that - that's the latest time for you until next spring. :)

I've given my Escallonia hedge it's last cut today as temperatures are now down to 7C overnight, so frost isn't far off.
