I am a genuine novice in this water gardening matters :-)

I am only a retired botanist, who happens to know these taxa, in situ ...

Now, I have just gotten a Nymphaea "rubra" from Postman Pat, my pond is still not ready for new inhabitants, still no pump, no waterfall and water is brown by my digging all around :)

Can I grow this one in a large bucket in my livingroom? If so, how? I know, it should be submerged, other issues?

    Hi
Yes to the question , but why in the living room ?

Is it already planted in a basket ?if yes you can just put in a bucket with about 6 inches of water above it and put it in full sunshine , when you later sort out the pond put the lily away from the waterfall as realy they like still water not moving , place on bricks so the folliage is just a couple of inches under the water when the leaves reach the surface drop it down again I think rubra like to be about 18 inches deep ? (any one else can help with depth ?)

I agree, the living room is no place for a waterlilly.:D

Cant help with the depth for that particular variety, but in general, the bigger they are the greater depth required.

Just spotted your from Norway, maybe the living room is something different there?
