When will apples be ready

    I have a Braeburn apple tree and it is about seven years old.I have never had a big crop last year was the biggest but there was only about 15 apples.Right now it is full of apples in fact bowing over with weight.Can anyone tell me when they should be ready to pick.

    Lift one up gently, if it comes away easy it's ripe, if you have to pull it's not :)

      When the pips are brown

      Even if apples are falling off, it could be just the wind causing it, check the pips.

      And even if the pips in windfalls are brown, it can be premature ripening caused by maggot infestation, so the remaining apples could still be unripe, check their pips.

      Ripening times will vary from year to year, ignore slavishly following 'book' guidelines. (I've got 2 Braeburns).
