Would anyone care to recommend a good beginners book for planning a small flower bed (10ft x 3ft) in the past we have just put anything in we can grow from seeds on the front of magazines and anything the local very small garden "tent" offers. This year I would really like to plan it based on different heights and things that go together nicely, iv tried googling an online planner but it looks like they mostly all charge for a service.

I have 2 the first is the RHS encyclopaedia of plants and flowers this is quite expensive though and the second is greenfingers guides border flowers by Lucy Summers. Hope this helps.
